to make 1 gallon washer fluid - 1 gallon water, 1 cup liquid detergent, 1 cup rubbing alcohol - gently mix together before pouring into your washer reservoir - the alcohol will make detergetn a lot more runny and will also help with stopping streaking and in case of cold weather greatly reduces the freeze point without using antifreeze which streaks really bad - I know this from personal experience as a truck driver

unless you live in a place that gets cold in the winter you can use water, it works the same as the cheapest washer fluid, and is free. Now in the winter if it gets cold enough where you live to freeze water, I would recomend getting a bottle of some pretty good stuff, it will really help with road slush and crap. But for now water will work fine, I used to work at valvoline and thats what we would use in the summer.

Water with 5 to 10 % methanol and some blue food coloring. That's almost exactly what the commercial formulae contain. However, I warn you that this is going to be almost as expensive as buying it at the store unless you can get methanol in bulk.
