What type of problems can occur when hardware, software and operating systems are not compatible? Also what general combinations of hardware and software offer very slow or fast transmission speeds?

Generally speaking when hardware is incompatible with software the software cannot use it at all or will try to use it incorrectly. Sometimes the hardware can be damaged by incompatible software. Sometimes the software will crash while attempting to use incompatible hardware.

Standards help make a wide variety of software and hardware work together. If a hardware is designed to comply with a standard then any software that also complies with that standard should work together seamlessly. In this case, the software and hardware vendors can develop products that work together using independent design processes.

The advantages of using a standard are a cheaper design process and interoperability amongst a wide variety of hardware and software.

The opposite of using a standard is what is often called a proprietary system. In terms of software and hardware the design process of both are more integrated. This can lead to performance gains but at the same time you lose the ability to interchange components. The key disadvantage often has to do with marketing. It often becomes more difficult to market to a wide variety of customers who prefer to have interchangeable hardware and software components.

Example:

Sony makes an MP3 player that requires one to use Sony's own proprietary software. Samsung also makes an MP3 player that conforms to the "USB Mass Storage Device" standard.

The Samsung device works on just about any modern Operating System (MS Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, etc.) with out the need to install additional software.

The Sony device only works on platforms which they have developed software for. The Sony solution allows you to do more with its MP3 player (i.e. set the time, copy protect music, and customise other features).

I chose the Samsung player because I use both Windows and Linux and I want it to work with both. In this case the standards solution was better for me.

I would have thought it was fairly obvious: if they're not compatible then they won't work properly, or sometimes they will not work at all. For example if you plug something into your computer and it's not compatible, your computer may not see it at all, or it may see it but not be able to use it, or it may see it but think it's something else, or that it's broken.

Very fast transmission speeds of what? You are asking too general a question.

What would technically happen if there incompatibility issues is that they would be no communication in as much as i able to respond to your q its because your languAGE is compatible to me and thus i am able to respond. Nothing would work

IF YOU COULD SEE MY OTHER COMPUTER AT THE MOMENT YOU WOULD NOT ASK THIS QUESTION TOTALLY JAMMED
