I assume that when you say "unplugged" you meant "twist, unlock and remove".
1- see if there is a battery in a compartment.
2- if there is, remove it and put it back in.
3- if there is none, then there should be little plug with three wires
and it is made to fit only one way (the right way).
4- then you have a hard wired detector.
5- you could take it where someone has a source of compressed air (service station) canned air for cleaning the computer is best or forget it and take it to a home center and get a new one (about $9 or so).

Hi,
They do that. Push the test button, it will go off again, and then it should stop. If it keeps going off it may be detecting carbon monoxide (if it's a CO testor as well). The number and frequency of the beeps will tell you why the smoke detector is going off. And on the back of the smoke detector it tells what the beeps mean. Hope that helps.

Hard wired smoke detectors are very sensitive if it got drop ed or banged a around a little it may be junk now.. I have also found that blowing them out with some compressed air also works if it has dust on the sensor if could be giving you a false reading
