I have to be honest and when I read your statement I laughed, but I do not think it will help to beat him. It is a serious problem and medication sometimes is not the best answer. I work with students that are ADD and being firm with them work. Say what you mean and mean what you say. You will have to learn patients as a parent and if you feel your patients wearing thin step back and regroup.
Ask your physician for some healthy alternatives that do not included drugging up your kid.
Good luck

What is 'school-girl' thinking? ADD is not a problem, as most people think. ADD children are actually very, very smart and so, they do not concentrate like normal children do because it's too boring for them. Regular school classes and homework are not the best idea for the ADD child. Ritalin is not the solution either.
You son needs plenty of physical activity, sports, games, etc. Also, you might find that if you keep him in school, he will do poorly. How old is he? I would suggest teaching him yourself, you might find that he learns very fast, but it doesn't sound like that's an option right now. You should look around for a different school to put him in that will be best for his level. And take him off the ritalin. It doesn't help! Neither will your "whooping" him. ADD children need lots of patience and understanding. Good Luck!

my husband had ADD since he was 6. He was on Ritalin until his parents discovered that Ritalin is basically the same thing as speed.
They took him off and put him in sports and just payed more attention. He still has it and has trouble focusing but he doesn't depend on a pill. Do your research.

No beating him won't change a thing... and ritalin causes heart problems. Maybe he acts out because you whoop him

You should buy the ritalin but if you can't afford it maybe you should just get a belt and hit him on his butt.

It won't help. It sounds like you are an abusive parent. You shouldn't be whooping him at all. If you actually love him, don't whoop him.

You are a sick f*ck! I hate you and I hope YOU die! Maybe that's why your son has ADD because you wish that other kids were hurt or harmed. You are probably a child molester yourself.
