i'VE WONDERED THE SAME THING MANY TIMES.
It is hard to accept that someone who occupies such a huge space can leave a space that is going to just vanish.
I think it gets occupied by another life.

Nothing can ever fill the space a pet has in their owners heart. I've lost 3 of my pets in the past 9 months and I love each and everyone of them as much as when they were alive, if not more. And whether you grow up with them or not makes no difference. I had two dogs, one i had since i was 5, the other came to live with us when i was 15 and i still love them equally. I still think about my animals a lot and miss them heaps! but life goes on and i'll always cherish the memories I have of them

It will never go completely away. This is your pet that has been a part of your life. The pain will subside in time but you'll never forget. You will always have him in your heart. I had to put my dog down due to an illness. It was one of the hardest things I've had to do in my life. This may sound crazy, but I had to get another dog the same day I put him down. My new dog wasn't to take the away the pain because my new pet wasn't my Sammy!! But I will say it did help me. It did help "fill that void" to a certain degree. Especially since my Sammy would follow me around all day. But I think about my Sammy everyday and its been a year and a half. But it was his time.

I would say - YOU answer that by- How did the owners feel about the pet?
We had a rottweiler 11 yrs old- he died... I made my roomate call the vet- and have him cremated and ashes sent back. Just burying him or having the local SPCA come lug him off would not have been proper to me- he was a part of the family!
It's about $300- who cares? He gave us more than 3 million $ worth of joy!
Do you know what the pound does with unclaimed dogs?
They are injected- put to sleep- and piled into a cold box/freezer- then shipped off to the east coast - ground up and mixed in with lawn fertilizer!
My friend worked for the humane society- told me this.

I had a cat that lived with me for 13 years .. she was there right next to me where ever I was at home and she just dissapeared when i was out .. in short Putshy was my shadow and there for me to lick my tears when I cried .. so close
2 years ago she died and I was lost and anyone who lost a pet knows the feeling
a year ago my sister got me a cat and she has been with me since she is close and everything and I love her so much but the thing is that she occupies a place in my heart just different than Putshy .. there is still a place there for her .. and other places for other pets .. each has his own place
the pain lessens but the memories stay there and get dearer .. hope you'll get over it if you lost a pet ..

Humans are the only animals to have a conciousness about our existence. All animals fulfill a cycle of life and death. nothing more. if your talkin about the space in your heart, buy a new animal.
