Know a little bit about reading AND writing sheet music/guitar tabs. Writing lyrics is easy enough, but putting it into a song is another story.
Also when writing a song, remember: Put your heart into it. These days, majority of songwriters don't seem to put a degree of themselves in the songs they make, per se. But by putting your all into the song, you can truly bring your song to life. Have fun and I'm looking forward to your song.

Dig down deep and pull some lyrics and unique sounds from your guitar out of your mind that will knock the teeth out of your audience. If you really have the drive to do this don't ever give up.

you need to know a little about chord progression. otherwise it will sound like crap. basically you cant just put a series of notes together. there is a certain way music must flow. talk to someone in a classical or symphonic field for help. they are the best.
