I understand what you are goin thru. Tell him you love what you have now and wouldnt like to destry it. You are more comfortable with havin him as just a friend. Do it nicely and dont change your attitude towards him. Am pretty sure it will work.
Take care.

You are not guaranteed to have him as a friend for the rest of your life in either case, even if you don't date him. If that's the ONLY thing that stops you - don't let it stop you. It's just an illusion that if you don't date it will be great.

If you simply don't want to date him, and don't even know why, it is OK too. You should tell him. But try to spare his feelings - he obviously likes you. But if you decide to date him just because you don't want to make him feel bad - that's a bad idea, because it's like lying to him.

Be honest with him with your feelings.. that way there is no hurt feelings and the friendship should continue .. if he is a true friend at all.

please tell him the truth...but its gonna hurt him bad. Dont give him false thoughts.

One good way, which my ex used to do was: She would telll them that she only going out with them as a friend, nothing more. It s a nice way of warning the person nbot to try anything else.

There's nothing wrong going out with a friend ...or is it that you don't want to be seen with him? If you don't mind spending platonic time with him ... let him know that you just want to be friends ... dutch treat ...you'll pay your own way.
