That year the Expos, with Tim Raines, won the National League East. The Dodgers won the NL West. That's the matter of the famous "Black Monday" when Rick Monday hit a couple of homers that put the Expos out of the series. The Dodgers went on to beat the Yankees in the World Series.

The year the Phillies were in the playoffs was 1980. That year they beat the Orioles, I think, for their first World Champioship.

The LCS started in 1969 but there was no such thing as an LDS until 1995. 1981 was a strike year...Split season as I recall...Seems like the winner of the first half played the winner of the second...MLB does record it as the NLDS I have no idea why Tim Raines didn't play against Philadelphia and then did play against LA in the LCS...
