Because each nations wants/needs something from another nation, thus living harmoniously is the best way to get it.

A harmonious environment is conducive for progress to benefit the people of a country; and one of the priorities is a stable government committed to peaceful and meaningful relations with other nations of the world. This is one of a set of prequisites foreign investors and multi national corporations look for to start up business ventures - a chaotic environment is never good for business and trade.
A nation should behave responsibly towards its neighbours within the norms of international acceptability and have diplomatic representations in each other capitals to improve government-to-government relationships and people-to-people understanding - failure to do so would invariably result in suspicion, mistrust and even conflicts.

We all share the resources needed to run in each society. In order to keep sharing, we need to keep friendly.
Another reason is that other nations have atomic bomb and we don't want them to use it.
