Are you happy w/ just enough or need excess

In the area I'm living in, if you want to live comfortably while renting, a good annual salary is about $50,000. If you want a decent house in a good neighborhood, I'm guessing you'll probably need around $100,000 (thanks to the real estate bubble). To me, more is better in this case, because you can always save the excess for retirement/future use, emergencies, cars, travel, help others, kids and their education. If I had just enough to pay the bills, I wouldn't have much for those other things. I really don't want to think about if I can afford something all of the time.

The more you make, the more you spend. Most people are one paycheck away from being homeless. I feel that I have a comfortable wage due to the fact that I could go more than one paycheck before being homeless. Plus I am able to help my family and friends.
