No - I believe a single currency would harm the UK, not benefit it. My reasoning is economical - A sigle currency requires a single interest rate. At present UK base rate is 4.75% while the Euro rate is 2.25% - A lower interest rate in the UK would be bad news for UK inflation. We could and should have a huge debate about this and hopefully other arguments will appear, both for and against.

The world has always purchased oil via the US dollar, now that there is the EU they have a bigger more powerful purchasing power block and buy oil via the Euro. When Nigeria, Iran and Venezuala bring thier oil production up more Euros will purchase more oil than what the US purchases. This will cause the Euro to continue to rise as a dominant form of currency and the dollar will continue to sink. And the US will HAVE to use Euros to purchase oil. This will destabilize the US economy and reduce the US even more. In the end the state of the union will be little more than a military dictatorship under mashall law. The US dollar will be worthless then. It is prophecied that Great Britain will not be a central or member state of the EU but Prince Charles will become a mouthpiece or some form of King speaking for the EU. The UK will continue to be a little brother to the US until things go really badly for the US which isnt that far off. Find yourself a good currency trader, who understands the markets of commodities, precious metals, futures and currency markets. I assume you are speaking of the UK and not the US.

Here in Cyprus, we are expecting the Euro as the official currency as of 1st Jan 2008. I am against the Euro. I look at the UK & see the good position economicaly they are in then i look at Greece, France, Germany & Italy. All with the Euro, all with problem with the people striking, protesting etc & I am thinking what the heck does our dumb idiotical goverment want to do with the Euro. Imagine 25 countries on 1 currancy!!! The only reason the Euro was created was for a currancy to challenge the dollar. Do we want a United States of Europe??? Down to the Euro. Bring on the collapse of it!!

Why not both? Larger shops having two tills, they can afford it. Prior to most european countries getting the euro, when we travelled through may different countries I had to have several different currencies in my wallet at one time. Now of course, different countries, one currency. A lot easier. If a purchase costs 3 euro's 50c in one country and the same product costs 7 euro's 50c somewhere else it is much easier to compare prices than to work out with a currency converter.

There are a lot of advantages in going for the Euro, one of them being to challenge the might of the US dollar, another is not having to change currency when travelling with-in Europe. But,as in Ireland, prices will shoot up.Thousands of people from the Republic of Ireland (Euro)go across the border to N.Ireland,(Sterling) to shop because it's far cheaper.

THE EURO!
if I could use bigger bolder fonts I would!
THE EURO
we could still keep the Queen's head on our euros
people would be able to compare prices, there are those who don't want us to realise how expensive things are in Britain compared to the rest of europe
as a general rule, what's ten € in Europe is £10 in Britain
The newspapers are very good at telling us the euro would be bad for us, but that is because people with money and power are the ones that don't want to lose out
imagine going on holiday and not having to get your currency changed, then getting it changed back on your return
I could go on!

No to the Euro, the Central European Bank has already proven it can't cope with the varying economic situation across the Eurozone resulting in rising prices, unemployment and mass migration.
Why on earth would we join that?

Imagine handing your pay over to your next door neighbour, then having to ask him/her every time you want to spend some money. Whoever holds the money controls the money and holds the power. And if any other person says to me ' Oh but it is so much easier to go on holiday if we all have the same currency', I will scream. How difficult is it to go to the Bureau de Change and say, 200 pounds worth of euros, please'. We have lost the right to make and keep our Anglo Saxon laws, if we loose the right to print and spend our own money - God help us!

How come everyone only ever mentions the pound in the Euro/Sterling debate? What about 50p's, 2p's and those cute little 5p's? Tenners and fivers? It's not just the pound we'll lose here!!! What happened to "In for a penny, in for a pound?"

Keep the pound. It adds to the UK's image in a good way for me.
I feel bad for my little US dollar. It doesn't seem like it can play with the big boys for some reason.
