But do you think the returns from war are diminishing fast?

What will/should the republicans do to retain power?

I have noticed that the US averages a war per President with the exception of Carter and a few others.

Regan - Lybia and the Ian scandal (where a Col was apparently running the whole country at the time it happened)

Bush Sr and Bush Jr we all know about that don't we.

Look through the history a war per President and all with very small countries who couldn't defend themselves and could have never posed a threat to the US .

Also notice they don't threaten Russia or China - now isn't that interesting? They say wouldn't it be nice Mr. China if you ........but threaten no way - too dam big. Little countries however

Bush is not that savy of a politician. Bush does not care about polls and ratings. Sure the GOP does especially with midterms coming up shortly.
But Bush is driven by ideology, whether you agree with his beliefs or not. He did believe there was WMDs.
Iraq, was a calculated risk, It should have worked. It would have worked were it not for Iran and Syria working overtime to undermine a successful free Iraq.
The next war front is obviously Iran. They're begging for it. If or when it happens, it has nothing to do with polls and popularity.
Forget about it. The Washington Post is as far left a newspaper as you can get.

Well for God sake I hope not. Besides if he is not going to help retain the Republican party in power, all of the loving Democratic haters will have a Democrat in office then they will be happy. The USA will bring all the troops home, from around the world, The world will go back to its peaceful existence, Afghanistan will let the Taliban back into power or the Taliban will seize it in a little skirmish, but we Americans will not care as we will be dancing in the street while Rome burns. Iran will allow the Bath party to rule and maybe Saddam will also regain power. He can then start his reign of terror again by killing millions of his own people. The Americans will not care as the Democrats will be leading us down the path of job and prosperity.

We will not care about the rest of the terrorist world until once again the Islamic terrorist strike again and kill our innocent people on our land.

I don't really care who is in office I just want to know how he or she will protect us and how the person in office will handle the change of power once Bush leaves office. Do you?

Historically wars in the last 40-50 years have started soon after a Republican takes over as president. The reason though is that frequently Democrat weakness emboldens other countries. Kennedy sent the first troops to Vietnam, Carter did nothing when Iran took the embassy hostages, and Clinton did nothing after the first bombing of the Trade Centers, the Cole Bombings, The Embassies. This was perceived by terrorists as weakness on the part of the US. Osma said after Somalia that America pulled out after having 18 killed in the "Blackhawk Down" incident that that all you had to do was kill an American soldier and America would run. That Americans had no stomach for fighting. And next came 911. You cannot negotiate with someone who's only goal is your death. Unless your willing to die to appease them! The Militants constantly kidnap Missionary's, Doctors, and Journalist's in Iraq. They have no part in promoting war. The just make easy targets and they are not Muslim. You can hate Bush, America, Israel, and Britain and they would still kill you if it would get them attention. Get in the real world

I had not looked at it from that perspective, but you have a valid point.
In fact, the events of 9/11 changed Bush from being head of an unelected lame-duck administration to some kind of "action hero" who was willing to look tough and be tough. As it happens, the Bush administartion was the only group of people that benefitted from 9/11, and there are many who say that this was no accident.

Unfortunately the toughness is paid with the lives of other people and Bush himself is one of those sad cowards who hide behind the big screen of rhetoric and ideology. He never spent a single day on a battlefield and never saw action, but happily sends others to kill and be killed on his behalf. As long as enough of the American people are willing to go along with that, we will have the continuation of US wars around the globe. The US population will pay a high price for those wars in future, but few people seem to care about that now. Peace would be possible, if the people who go to fight wars would want it.

War is the easiset way to rally the people behind you. All you got to tell them that they are under attack and denounce the pacifist as traitors, having a lack of patriotism.

It worked for the Nazis and it works in this country. Time and time again.

If the Republicans wish to retain power, they need to get rid of Bush sooner rather than later. He appears to have very little instinct for politics and is currently undermining Republican support base as well as any voters who are on the fence.
The party need to replace him with a more politically savvy leader.

Have to admit it, all these skirmishes have no win at the end of them.

Nobody asks Bush to define the word "win"

Republicans all are lost, and the Democrats better act fast to get a solid agenda together.

They all bought the Bush crap, lock, stock and barrel. .

Either a fresh war or a fresh terrorist attempt... the recent one in Britian that affected ppl here using the Airlines... by it affecting us this meant we 'felt' the affects; therefore, were reminded that terrorism is still a viable threat.
