Hello, what is the formula to convert from inch to foot-inch?
for example: 61"=5'-1". I can get the basic 61/12=5.08 feet, but im not sure how to get .08 into 1". Is it just a matter of rounding it off, or is there a more accurate way?

First, divide the total number of inches by 12. This will give you a whole number (the number of feet) and a fraction. Then, you multiply the whole number of feet by 12, and subtract that from the total number of inches to determine how many inches the fraction of a foot is. This is just one way, but it works.

For example -

68" / 12" = 5.6666...
Now you know it is 5 feet and .66666... inches.
5 feet = 60 inches, so 68 - 60 = 8 inches.
So, your total would be 5 feet 8 inches.

However, you also know that .66666 is the same as 2/3, which is equal to 8/12 - this is the other way to do it.

To solve this problem

finding the height of 61 inches

12 Inches equals one foot

12 x 5 = 60 inches

Multiply 12 times 5 equals 60 inches

There is 1 inch remainding

The height is 5' 1"

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

2nd Method

Using the caculator

61/12 = 5.083333333

Dividing 61 inches by 12 inches equals 5.083333333

use the decimal .083333333

12 x 0.083333333 = 0.999999996

Multiply 12 inches x 0.083333333 = 0.999999996

5' .999999996"

5' 1" rounded up

Please note that the unit of measurement that you are talking about is not a decimal system of measurement. Therefore a direct division in a decimal system will not yield accurate results.

Taking your example:
61" = 5' 1"
Note, 1' = 12"

61/12 = 5(quotient) 1(remainder)
so the quotient forms the number of feet and the remainder forms the number of inches.

Lets take another example
45"
45/12 = 3(quotient) and 9(remainder)
Thus the result is 3' 9"....(3 feet 9 inches)

Using your example, divide 61 by 12. Your answer is 5 with a remainder of 1. The first part of your answer is in feet, your remainder is in inches. So 61" = 5'1"

a foot roughly equals 12 inches
so 61 inches = 5 ft and 1 inch

5.08 FEET=5 FEET+.08FEET
=5 FEET+.08*12 INCH
=5 FEET+.96 INCHES
.96 INCHES= 1 INCH(rounding it off)
SO, IT IS 5FT 1 INCH.(NOT ACCURATE,rounding it off)

If you have studied fits and tolerences , the remainder 1 will leads to inaccuracy.

61"/12 = 5.0833333333333333'(don't worry)
then 5.0833333333333333' - 5' = 0.0833333333333333' (in calculator ANS - 5)
then (0.0833333333333333') * (12) = 1"
So u got 61" = 5' 1"

divide the inches by 12
then the remainder should be the inches

61/12 = 5 remainder 1

so it is

6'1"
