Seriously. My flatmate had organic toothpaste. It contained 'Celtic sea salt'. I guess it had bravehearty powers in it or something unlike salt from lesser seas.

Marketing. It got your flatmate to buy didn't it?

Seriously though, organic products aren't all bad. Check out this list from organic.com

But if someone was so go as far as to only use organic toothpaste, well, that's just good marketing telling him what to buy.

Certified organic is a great thing. Of course, we want food that doesn't have pesticides sprayed on it. We want food that's grown naturally so the soil has all its minerals in it. We want butter that came from a cow that wasn't laden with excess toxins and hormones because those things are stored in the FAT.

As more of the general population of the western world becomes aware that these things affect our health by making us more susceptible to disease, everyone is jumping on the "organic" bandwagon.

Organic is NOT as safe as Certified Organic because it lacks the stringent controls of a third party certifying agent.

Celtic sea salt is a little cleaner than plain sea salt. That is, the water doesn't have quite as many contaminants in it. I mean, the Ganges River dumps into the sea, right?

Organic means that it was made without pesticides or harsh chemicals. While there is really little difference in the product itself, when you buy organic you are supporting a process that benefits the planet as a whole.

Organic farming techniques use natural predators of insects and plants they don't like (marigolds, for example) instead of expensive chemicals that poison groundwater. Animals may be used to plow and harvest, and their waste products used instead of fertilizers that, again, poison water supplies.

As for sea salt, its mineral content is actually different from regular table salt. The same flavor can be achieved with less product, and the contents are less harmful to the body.

When I went to school "Organic" meant that it is alive, or had lived once. Inorganic was like a rock, never alive.
When did this change?
