Obviously any normal person would. Saw this on an episode of Dr. Phil. They didn't discover until after they were married they had the same father. What a freaky thing to happen! But the husband still wants to be with the wife. The wife is unsure. What is wrong with this picture?

I don't remember much of the story, but I believe one the husband grew up without a father. I think maybe somebody said the husband looked like her father or something. Something like that happened.

Ok, I went to Dr. Phil and found the story.
"My husband and I were happily married for 15 months until we found out we were brother and sister," says Jonnie. "We share the same father. We were so shocked. I think we're still in shock."

Jonnie and Dennis hit it off right away when they first met. They learned they both grew up in Detroit. "We pulled a map out and realized our moms' houses were only five blocks apart," says Jonnie. "We went to the same store, the same parks. We had so much in common we couldn't believe that we'd never met before."

"After the first six months of Jonnie and I dating, I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her," says Dennis.

For their first anniversary, Dennis and Jonnie went back to Michigan to visit family. It was there that the puzzle pieces began to fall into place. Dennis was showing his aunt their wedding photos when she recognized Jonnie's dad. "My aunt said she had another photo of him. Then she showed us the picture of Jonnie

dad and my mom at the high school prom," explains Dennis.

"When I looked at the picture, I knew instantly that Dennis's mom
had to be pregnant with Dennis in the picture, standing with my father," says Jonnie.

Hi RoswellDreamer - a fellow fan of the TV series?
Anyway, there was a Russian (?) movie on the same subject some years ago. I think it was based on a true story. The siblings(?), half siblings (?) had been raised separately and never knew of the existence of the other. It was only after they married that they found out they were related. They defied government bans and imprisonment to be together. They had several children all of whom were normal (no genetic defects due to inbreeding.)

I would think it would be repulsive to most people, but if that Russian (?) story is based on real events, then it would seem that love can override normal taboos. I suppose they would argue, these rules are man-made and in ancient times Pharoahs married their sisters, so why not now?

RoswellDreamer as in Roswell the great conspiracy?
On to your question, yeah there is definitely something wrong with that picture. Being a man i say this with statistical detachment. Some men would not find this wrong because of the whole sex-drive over riding whats right thing. However there is no way this can possibly be right. My wife and i kid about being related because we look alot alike and have a great deal in common and are connected spiritually. We think the same things, call each other at the same time, like the same things (most of the time) and crave the same foods at the same time. its not possible that we are related and when we kid about that we both Yyyyeeeeuuuccckkk! i am sleeping with my brother (or sister) ooooh, get away !!!

There is some question as to whether the marriage is legally valid -- the rules differ among states. Marriage of that sort is normally ill-advised because of the increased likelihood of a defective gene, with possible ill effects on offspring. I am all in favor of letting people make up their own minds about such things, but it would be well to consult a lawyer to investigate any legal ramifications.

The whole picture is wrong, but indeed this is a reality with so many children born out of wedlock and remarriages happening.

I would be horrified for sure. The idea of sleeping with my husband is then incestuous!

I saw that show too. Eww yuck!

Yes I'd freak out, and I'd wonder why I'd married someone who looks like my father. I'd question everything about the marriage and relationship.

I'm not a big fan of divorce, but I would consider it in this case.

But for the grace of god, they wouldn't have known and they might have happily continued to living together....besides, I don't watch Dr. Phil. He's re-retreading the steps Oprah had learnt not to step anymore...its all sensationalised.

very sad, i feel very sorry for the couple. that shows how it is important for the parents to keep in touch with their children. mother & father even after divorce or separation should keep n touch with each other for the sake of the children. otherwise this is what happens.here the religion . rule or law is not important. emotionally they will suffer.
