I am an overseas student. I have an offer from the University of York. I would like to know whether this is a good university or not. In my home country, some people said this university is one of the top ten in UK. Some people said they have not heard about this University. What do you think about this university? Thank you.

York is a "good" university - it's one of the established universities, and has some good areas of expertise. It's not one of the best regarded (not on the same level as Oxford or Cambridge, for example), but it's not far off. It has a high entrance standard, and is very popular. York is a lovely city, and the University is very pleasantly placed. It's quite old-fashioned in places (quite 1960's), but there's lots of landscaping around. I think it would be a good experience for you to go there - hope you enjoy!

They are two separate institutions offering different courses. York St John used to be a teacher training college many years ago and York university was the traditional university offering undergraduate courses. Hope this helps.

I have been to a Summer School at York University, my cousin and two of my friends have studied there and I can honestly say I have never heard anyone say anything bad about it. The Library is amazing with some very rare books and first editions amongst its collection. The facilities are excellent and create a good environment to study. The social life is very good and the city itself provides good night-life and working opportunities for the students. Accept the offer and your life will be a richer experience as a result.

Good luck with your studies

Like all Universities, York will be good for some subjects, and not so good (if not plain BAD) for others. Socially, it's what you make of it.
Perhaps if you let us know what course you're considering, somebody will be able to give you a better opinion.
