Dude, I was 33 when my husband and I became pregnant with our son. One day when I'm like 8 1/2 months pregnant, I'm using the toilet and my husband is shaving and we were just talking. So I reach down to wipe myself and out flies this little square of clear gelatin. We both looked at each other and I was like, "what was that"? Mucus plug.

No it is not a invention at all. This is something that is up around your cervix. And as you get ready to go in labor or months before you go into labor this will come loose and exit the vagina. All that it is a clob of muscus.
