People think "cutters" are emo. But hey, theyre all wrong. EMOS cut themselves, yes, its true, but they do it for sheer attention. Sometimes they even draw cuts and bruises with makeup too. REAL CUTTERS have REAL PROBLEMS unlike emos, that WISH they had something to whine about. Thus, they do this sh*t and make a fool out of everyone. this is my emo philosophy. So am i right or what?

10 years ago, all of the "Emo" mentality types used to get all worked up and then go and shoot up their school to get attention. But then 9/11 happened and even the whiney little "Nobody understands me" types realized that there were problems in the world far more important than their teen angst. Seriously, remember how there was a school shooting in the news ever 2 or 3 months before 9/11, and then after it just stopped. So now, the same minded, "I'm so different and special and no one will ever know the REAL me" cry babies turn inward and attack themselves instead of turning outward and shooting their classmates.

But as to your question, taking a blade to your body and drawing your own blood is a bit of a neurosis. I used to do it in the 80s. But I did it so I could watch myself bleed, privately, to remember that I was alive. Like Arnold said in "Predator", "If it bleeds, we can kill it." I didn't bleed to draw an audience. So true cutters are most likely Emo, and then you have Emo posers who cut themselves because they think it proves they're emo.

Bottom line: Which came first , the bleeding or the music?

Okay so this topic I've done a lot of research on recently, and I've basically come to this conclusion:
There are two types of emo. The first, the EMOtional ones. Emo originally came from emotional, which is why you here about genuinely unhappy, depressed or suicidal emos who have different ways of dealing/not dealing with their problems. The one which everyone seems to know about is self harm/cutting. NOT ALL EMOS CUT, it's just wrong to stereotype them like that. It is just the same with people who don't consider themselves emo, some cut, some some starve themselves, AND SOME DONT. What ever it is they choose, it is not their actions that define who or what they are. I do not mean to say that everyone who is depressed is an emo, but you get my point.
Then there are the second type of emos, who basically think it's cool to be depressed and cut themselves and wear 5kg of eyeliner. These guys are the stereotypes! They basically don't understand the idea of being genuinely unhappy with themselves, their lives and the things going on around them. These guys basically want attention. This is not to say that the real emos don't like to dress in black and cut and wear eyeliner, my point is not ALL real emos want to dress like that.
Thanks for reading, I hope I answered your question :)

Umm, lamers who think cutting is cool do, but not all emo's have any desire to cut or make people think they cut themselves. Actually, that whole 'cutting and depressed' thing is just a lame stereotype people have come up with for emo culture, just like what is done for punks, goths, preps, etc. The sad thing is, people actually tke the stereotype deadly serious, and lame wannabe 14 year olds have taken on these stereotypes as the real thing; dressing in black, listening to lame music that isn't even emo, and calling themseves emo...

It drives me insane.

It seems to me that anyone who's cutting has problems, whether they're emo or not. People from all walks of life can be known to cut. And I don't think all emos cut. I didn't know that people drew cuts and bruises on themselves; I find this quite disturbing, actually, because it seems pretty similar to actual cutting. It seems like if they want to look like they cut, they might actually want to cut, which makes me worry about their mental health.

hmm, i think its weird how 'emo' has become a way to describe people how it has, I always thought it was just a type of music. I actually like it. People who do stuff and dress a certain way to fit into a group have some issues to begin with.
