one thing that hasn't been brought up is the fact that until a few years ago spiderman was an untouched idea. batman and superman have been on the screen since the forties and have had their ups and downs.batman has people still reeling from bad sequel aftertaste.superman kind of missed the mark with too much psychology/not enough action. people have been waiting 40 years for a spiderman movie. the first two didn't dissapoint and the 3rd will do well, after that his day in the sunshine is over. there will soon be a time when there are new actors and some producer who just tosses out a spidey movie for quick cash & happy meal tie-ins. when that happens this question board will be flooded with "spiderman 5 ,what went wrong?" ?s

Because The New Superman And Batman Movies Are Crappy Compared To The Original Movies, And They Should Never Of Attempted A New One, And Who Could Watch Superman If Superman Was Someone Else, And Batman, COME ON, I Mean.. Batman Begins Was THE LAMEST MOVIE, And I LOVE Batman.

And Spiderman Doesnt Really Have An Original Movie That I Know Of , To Compare To

I remember months b4 Spiderman 2 was released i started watching teaser trailers on tv, MONTHS before THAT!!! can u believe it? They came in every SINGLE commercial breaks, there were also a lot of Spiderman 2 spoofs edited, really CUTE! i remember my dad (a big Superman fan) was so infatuated he decided to go see Spdierman 2 in cinema (the last time he went was more than 10 yrs ago)

Now the Marvel Comics people have influenced the younger generation towards them (my bratty brothers, cousin brother, neighbors' chidlren, all udner 12) r BIG BIG fans of Spiderman. OMG u should see the looks on their face when my older brother (another Spidey fan after 2002) showed them the first teaser trailer for Spiderman 3

I'd say bad marketing. I didnt hear anything about 2005's Batman b4 the Katie Holmes-Tom Cruise saga, didnt hear A THING about Superman returns until it was shown in cinemas

Both movies had potential to become the best, but failed in many areas.

For Batman, they chose the weakling scarecrow and some guy i've never heard of before (Ras-Al-Goul) to be the main villains, and the female lead to be a person who still looks like a teenage girl from Dawson's Creek. I admit, Liam Neesan as expert swordsman Goul was pretty cool, but the lawyer/scarecrow threat didn't seem all that threatening.. and batman was still beaten up by taking a whiff of the scare cologne. The batmobile was ridiculous, it had an uncanny resemblance to the recycled dreadnought machine from g.i.joe.

For Superman, the worst part of the movie (aside from director bryan singer, who destroyed the two x-men movies) was illegitimate superboy. Other disappointing items were the ditsy lex luthor girlfriend, the idiotic plan to create a barren continent from the fortress crystals, the airplane rescue scene where lois gets thrown around like a rag doll but manages to escape without even a wrist sprain, creepy superman stalking lois lane, over-acting jimmy olson, over-acting frank langella who tries to imitate spider-man's J. Jonah Jameson. As for Superman's costume and logo redesign, they didn't look all that great. Brandon Routh isn't a bad actor, it's just that the script and directing were horrible.

Let's see, Spiderman had a better plot, better special effects, better villains, better marketing. Superman Returns suffered from having no big fights with a worthy opponent, Batman Begins was a good movie but the weak sequels before the movie was released seriously hurt the movie.

Maybe it was because there have already been a lot of Batman and Superman movies already made and people are tired of watching them. Spiderman is relatively new so it is bound to be more popular than Batman and Superman.

Its an end of an era. DC superheroes used to be SO HUGE...it was practically unstoppable, until advanced GCI visuals took place. The Spiderman & X Men movies were the pioneers in this area, plus nobodys complaining anythin about it, no matter how fake & ridiculous it can sometimes seem, Plus, Spiderman & X Men have both established a loyal fan base since the new millenium began...a NEW ERA

Well... there is one basic thing that everyone seems to have forgotten:

Batman and Superman had BOTH been made into well received and well respected films in the past. (Not to mention popular TV shows, be they good or bad.) Fans could be content with the previous cinematic experience.

Spidey on the other hand had NEVER been on the big screen. What would people say? "This movie wasn't nearly as good as that crappy TV show with Kirstie Alley's ex-husband!" Sorry but the Parker Stephenson show just didn't cut it then, and sure wouldn't stand up well today.

They were gone for a long time and the last few movies of the franchise were not well recieved by the public. And because of that the public was very cautious. And because of that the movie's success depended on word of mouth. Word of mouth on Batman Begins was bettter that's why it did better. Spider-Man did so well becasue it was the first time it was done and it was the first big summer blockbuster to come out in 2002 and the scale of it was big.

Batman starts is the greater clever of the two movies you have listed.... i in my opinion theory Spiderman 2 replaced into so plenty greater clever the Spiderman a million and the previews for Spiderman 3 make it look like it is going to be a sturdy action picture too....
