You don't want to carry a knife for self defense unless you are trained. Pepper spray or a stun gun or batton are a better choice.

BUT - since you asked. - You need a "spring assist" knife like a Kershaw leek:

I have the silver one - it is EXCELLENT. - sharp - well built too.

Technically it is not a switchblade, but a lockback with a spring assist (you open it part way and the spring does the rest - but it essentially flicks open) so it is legal most places - but you better check with your local PD.

Start by getting one with either a thumb stud on the blade or a thumb hole. With practice you can open it almost as fast as any auto knife. Practice using your thumb and flicking your wrist at the same time. Remember, Practice, Practice , Practice.

HAhahaa, what does this have to do with computers??

Anyways, they are called butterfly knives or switchblades, and in most places they are illegal. I know in all of Canada they are, and I believe that most places in the US are the same.

I don't know if there are any that are designed to do this but if you work on one with a heavier blade you can achieve this result. Loosen the pivot point and that will usually do the trick.
