Mostly because people love the idea of that kind of love... the kind that breaks through social classes. Poor people want to be rich, and it's a nice fantasy. But overused. Very overused.

Probably because there are lots of poor girls in the audience who get to live vicariously through the character.

I dont know but it works on some shows. Like the Great show 'Veronica Mars'
