Few a few drops of acetone (or nail polish remover) into it and shake the bottle. Should work but gluggy nail varnish often heralds a stale bottle. I'd throw it out and buy a fresh one.
P.s: Nail varnishes only really last up to two years, but even I have some that are older then that!)

Actually, those were three different questions. The answer to the first one is: consider just throwing it away, and purchasing a new one. You probably didn't like the color anyway.
The answer to the second one is: thin it with nail polish thinner, never with remover. Never.
The answer to the third question, which was not asked--that is, how to keep it from thickening in the first place--is: keep it in a cool, dry, and dark place. Dark is very important.

i've added just a little bit of nail polish remover. start small and work up till you get the right consistency.

well you can try both nailpolish remover but little not too nuch or it will make your nail polish bad and turn into a bad dark dirty colour you can also try to put thinner but same less amount...hey dont even try to put water in it it will destroy it i sweare. plz dont no water my favourite nailpolish was destroyed due to water....
you can try all the stuff i wrote
