This might be a good time to introduce her to her first piece of good jewelry. Something meaningful, like a cross, if you are Christian, or an anchor, for faith, or a butterfly to remind her that nothing stays the same, bad fades away and becomes good, and the good can always get better!
There are many thoughtful symbols that are available, and if gold is too precious, if she can tolerate sterling silver, then this might be a good time to begin learning how to take care of small, meaningful, and delicate things!
I am currently in a Biblical Study on the Book of Daniel, and one thing that seems to be repeating itself in history--and please know I'm NOT preaching to anyone, is that the more
"things" we have as a society, the less happy we are becoming!
Maybe this is a time to consider that Less is MORE!!!
Good luck, and may you find just the right something for her.

Start her collecting BOOKS. My 14 yr old daughter LOVES books! She has several complete series!

You can get some good bargains at Thrift Stores, Goodwill, Salvation Army, Big Lots, Dollar Stores, Walden-books, Barnes & Nobles etc.

My boys like to read, but not like she does!

Ask her what she wants, or give her a gift card to her fav. store, or a practical purse that looks good never goes out of style. Hope you find the right answer and gift.

Jewelry sounds like a good idea. Maybe take her shopping. Or do a spa day for the two of you. Relaxing, and good for mother-daughter bonding.

That is very true! I've noticed that myself! Well, kids today love to get cash. My parents get the kids savings bonds. To make it fun for them, put cash in a box, all in $2 notes, or put it in a new piggy bank to encourage some saving.

It's really hard to buy for kids today. Not like when I was a kid.

A gift certificate to a store her friends go to is ideal. Or you and her could have a girl's day out and get new outfits and a manicure and pedicure.

You could take her on a shopping spree in a big city near you. Then you could spend time with her as well as buy her things that you know she would like! I'm sure it would be fun for her to go out on the town and go out to lunch/dinner with you. I know I still like doing that with my mom and i'm almost 20!!

LOOK give her a gift card and let her buy what she wants. I know she has an idea of something she wants.
