Where are you working?

Do you know what a gunshot sounds like live or only from the movies?

Was it just one?

If it was just one, you are inside, and you are not sure what a gunshot sounds like, as opposed to a car backfire or a heavy board landing flat against pavement (which sounds more like a gunshot from TV than a real gunshot does) then I would just ignore it and go back to work.

Otherwise you can call the police.

Go on working dude . May be it was just a misconception. No need to worry. If it really was a gunshot then police might already on the way. It is not that only u hv heard the shot.

How close was it? Unless you think it was really close to your house, just go back to work. You telling the police you heard a gunshot won't help them at all. Now if you heard it in the street in front of your house - call. They can do something with that info.

Or, get a different job so you're not awake at 2:00AM to hear possible gunshots!

If it is an unusual act in your locale, you are duty bound to call up the police control-room and report the matter. Let them deal with it. But, report you must.

more than likely it was a car or motorcycle backfiring, but if you are in a high crime area it wouldn't hurt to report it to the police.
