Through the years I have carried many different pocket knives, I'll break them down so you can have some ideas. Case Brand 2 Bladed Trapper. Buck LockBack. Smith & Wesson Cuttin' Horse. All the knives had a plain 3 inch blade. Now I carry what basically is an import from China, it to has a 3 inch blade, but it is partially serrated, good for cutting rope or plastic strapping, plus it has a pocket clip. I found it at a flea market for less than $4.00, in my opinion it is just as good as the others, it sharpens easy and it stays sharp quite awhile. Since you have asked another question about a pocket knife, go with the Smith & Wesson Cuttin' Horse with a 3 inch blade, it has a thumb hole for one handed opening and an Allen Screw for a pivot pin so you can adjust the blade tension, just don't loosen it too much or you might lose the screw and the blade will fall out.

Bowie knives (they're probably bigger than what you're looking for, but they're great for camping & fishing).
