8 year old Compaq Presario, win 98, 64 MB ram, 9 GB hard disk, integrated video card. later, I installed cd-rw and ethernet card.

should I give away? or
how much should I ask for?
do you think I should remove the CD-RW and ethernet card and sell them since those were mine?

do you think someone will even buy it?

You have two options:
1. sell the parts on eBay. maybe you will get 20-50bucks, if you're lucky.
2. consider that there are many kids that cannot afford a computer and maybe you'll try to give them a smile.

Now, think which one will give you more satisfaction.

You should simply give it away. The hardware and the components are too outdated to really do anything besides basic Microsoft Word, etc. The best suggestion would be to recycle your computer as a means of keeping our environment clean. The CD-RW drive could be sold though.

On the other hand, the computer may not seem like much, but it can still be put to good use. Folding@Home is a small client program involving distributed computing. It is run by a group of students from Stanford's Chemistry Department. Your PC can be put to good use helping to fold proteins and maybe find a cure to some of today's major diseases. Enjoy!

I would say sell it. Wouldn't go over $50 though. Eventhough the computer is 8-9 years old, it can still be used. Believe it or not, but older computers actually make a decent home server or even a personall firewall box using Linux. That Presario can always be upgraded too. Add 256-512MB Ram, a 40GB HDD, and you have a decent starter machine. Not to mention a nice little computer that can be used for server or Access Point.

its an 8 year old compaq.... i highly doubt that anyone would want to buy it for a decent amount of money. Just give it away but remove all the important things like the ethernet card. Just like you said, you could probably sell them.

Man, give it away to a relative,or somebody with a kid that wants to learn how to work on computers.
I've got a 2001 Presario 7110 US that when I started out, didn't know squat about PC's. Now I've got1G of RAm, USB2.0(8ports),7950 GTX 256 MB VC,100G ext.HDD,100G HDD, and did all this myself with no major malfunctions.
Also adde a Dual Layer DVD/CD Burner!

Give it away to charity. The only thing that thing is useful for is if it is hooked up to a printer and used as a word processor.

You could perhaps get $10 or $20 for it, but giving it to charity will give you a bigger satisfaction then anything you can buy for $20.

sell the parts. take it apart and sell everything you can on amazon or ebay. the cd-rw and the ethernet card may go for something. the hard disk....might....also give you a couple bucks. its never worth just "giving" it away.

Remove the drive and ethernet card, and recycle the machine. At 9 years old, not much can be done to/with it.

omg... dat is too old for someone to buy dat pc but maybe the recycle centre will be kind enuf to buy it. But, dont expect too much from it; its too old to cost a 50$ alright... and one more thing: whatever thing that can still be used, take it out cos u still can use it when u buy a new computer (better than wasting)

some1 might buy - not a bad config for first time users
but that depends which country u r from !!!
In India that might sell for INR 4000 approx , that would be $80- $100 (max); In US I dont think its gonna get you more than $50,
so you may think of giving it to some community - cry.org or community for helping children & underpreviledge.
