Jeter winning the MVP would most likely result in minimum controversy.
Not sure anybody goes out and plays harder everyday and it is a possiblity that he will be navigating the train that takes the Yankees to the promised land....again.

With the game on the line I would still prefer Ortiz at the plate over anyone... you want to talk clutch just look at his stats with the game on the line. The last year, he's had 16 chances to win the game and he's only produced one out, after which he hit a walk off anyways in the 11th.... he is clutch!
Jeter's fielding is terrible too! I don't care what you think you see. He has slow reactions to the ball. Using the right metrics you can see that he is now only an average shortstop when fielding. Every real scout or GM with an eye can see it. He just makes great plays on balls every once in a while that a good fielder can get to with no problem.
I am sure the Yankee fans would say that it needs to be someone in the field. But baseball is a zero sum sport. A run earned is as good as a run saved. Jeter's fielding isn't up to par enough to qualify him to close that gap.
From 1996 to 2004 Jeter has actually cost the Yankees 140 runs or 1.5 games per year! He only actually added runs for the first time last year with his fielding. He's consistently near the bottom of the league in chances, put-outs, and assists. The reason Jeter has hurt his team defensively is that he doesn't get to many balls and is not spectacularly efficient with those he does get to. Yes he has improved his fielding, but he is not a great fielder period! He is average to below and has been consistantly below average through out his career.
Fans that understand the game and study it know that Ortiz is obviously the MVP.

Lol, MVP means Most Valuable Player, no where in there do I see the words "must hit a lot of homeruns". Jeter does something better then homeruns, he gets clutch hits. Did you see the Red Sox game sunday night? Who was up AND came through with the game on the line? Was it David Ortiz? No, it was Derek Jeter. Ortiz then had a chance in the bottom of the 10th and couldn't do anything. I don't think David Ortiz can be MVP because he is a DH, and DH's don't win MVP awards. With a man on second and the game on the line (such as Sunday night) I would much rather have Derek Jeter up then David Ortiz.

People are only talking about Jeter as MVP because of the Massachusetts Manhandling (must...remove...from...memory). The fact is that, despite the series, David Ortiz is still the man for the AL MVP.

another red sox fan that doesnt grasp the whole mvp thing.its not just hitting its all around play.ortiz is a dh doesnt play the field .jeter is hitting in the .330 `s,plays the field and leads his team that is an mvp not a part time player like ortiz.homeruns are only a small part of the equation.i`ll take a guy hitting300 scoring runs and driving i n runs AND playing great defense anyday.lets see big popi go after afoul ball and land 5 rows deep in the stands .i doubt it .

Its most valuable PLAYER, not most valuable HITTER. home runs are an overrated category anyway. whats the difference between a game winning homer and a game winning single? they both win you ball games. a home run just helps your stats. also, jeter is something like .325 late in close games, while ortiz is something like .280. more importantly, the red sox probably arent even making the playoffs. and jason varitek should be considered more valuable than ortiz. the red sox are a .250 team without him. jeter is a gold glove fielder who comes up with huge hits, and also, as a yankee fan, i know that jeter makes the team gel together. jeter is the force that make the yankees so great. he is my clear mvp candidate.

You want a true MVP candidate. Travis Hafner - just check the stats. I won't rattle them all off to you hear you are all capable of going to MLB.com and checking for yourself. Out of the 10 major offensive catergories he is in the top 10 in 8 of them, and 1st or 2nd in 6 of them. He is just a hitting machine. UNfortunatley he plays in a small market, and a losing team. I'm sure another fu**ing Yankee will get it. The balloting is a huge joke. It is not based on the best player gettign it it is based on a popularity contest.

Jeter grow to be certainly ripped off in 1999, only as he grow to be in 2006. the guy hit .349, 24 homers, 102 RBI, and performed a super shortstop then. The Yankees had a super team then, yet Jeter grow to be fairly the guy who set them aside, and carried them for the 1st couple of months while they struggled offensively. there is not any way that Ivan Rodriguez grow to be greater effective than Jeter, and he additionally performed in a park that grow to be made for hitters. The section that I hate the main is that Jeter complete 2nd interior the A.L. batting race to a undeniable muscle-sure shortstop from Boston, who for some reason, has never been suggested for taking overall performance-improving drugs, and whose physique has only approximately completely broken down on him. yet he performed for Boston, so Nomar wasn't suggested interior the Mitchell record.

I have a feeling Ortiz is going to take it, but I think Jeter deserves it more. Ortiz is too cocky! Jeter shows he has a true love for the game. Ortiz is always shown in pictures with all his bling and it paints a picture of him in the game for the money. Besides, home runs aren't everything. Jeter has the heart!

no because he chokes in October. His fielding is fine, he strikes out too much. I've gotten to the point I can call it when he's going to strike out (because when you really need it it always happens). And I've been a Yankees fan since 16. I think Ortiz's gorilla looking butt will get it.
