yeah you can run that filter,but you have to tune the carb to compensate for the added air. it dies because when you gun it,you get 3x the air,but the same amount of fuel and that just wont work.

cut the fuel back or it may not be on there right .air filter i do not think is the problem.maybe thinner filter element

Don't swap jets until you change your exhaust to breathe more efficiently. Until then, you need to richen up your carb.

You need to re-jet the carburetor.

i would say you have a lean air fuel mixture, this is why it dies
