some ginger tea or ale.
also there is an excess salivation when ones just about to vomit, try not to swallow that rather spit it out without force.
try breathing slowly and relax.
if all that doesnt work, just vomit and get over it.

There are medicines out there which have the ability to suppress nausea. Now, if you have something like alcohol poisoning, obviously you should not take any medication. If you have alcohol poisoning, you should be puking to your heart's delight... otherwise, check yourself into a hospital asap.
But if you don't, a medicine which I use when I feel nauseous (from food poisoning, etc.) is called "Seirogan." It's a very popular Japanese medicine, you can order it online, or find it in most Asian pharmacies. It smells awful, but works like a charm... always.
EDIT: It occurred to me that some people might not know what 'nausea' is. It's that feeling you get that makes you want to throw up/vomit.
EDIT: Drinking extra liquid is not a good idea to stop yourself from feeling nauseous. Actually, it's a bad idea. But eating saltine crackers slowly works for many people. I prefer the Japanese medicine, since it works very quickly.

I get this taste in my mouth right before I puke. So, whenever I know I am about throw up I get something to drink as fast as I can and it helps. Oh, swallowing it and not letting it come up is also a good way but puking is a good thing to do because your body only does it when it needs to get something bad out.

Well the whole reason why you start puking is because your body is trying to get it out of your system because it thinks that it's doing something bad. hhhmmmm...anyway, If you drank bleach do you think that your body would let you keep it down? No, it'll fight to get it up. There isn't a whole lot that you can do to not vomit if your body wants to get something out. There are a few things to help if you feel naseous, but once it starts there's little you can do besides get it all out.

I tried wraping duct tape over my mouth, but it all came out my nose anyway. It hurt. It also hurt when I took the tape off, but it was worth it. I couldn't re-ingest that yummy nose puke with the tape over my mouth.

I'm going to watch this question, because no matter how hard I've tried, sipping water, sucking ice cubes, whatever, I cant stop myself. I hope someone has a suggestion.

most every time, you throw up because your body NEEDS to. holding it in would cause much more damage. For some reason, the material that you throw up was a toxin and rejected by your body. It needs to exit as soon as possible.

You might lick a little salt to hinder that down pour of saliva...sometimes you don't want to stop it, because this is how your body reacts to rid foreign objects...

Naw, when you gotta blow, ya gotta blow. Eliminate your reason to puke, you'll feel much better.
