Sounds like it is running a little rich and causing it to backfire. Check your O2 sensor to see if it close to specs. If it is just inside one of the parameters, then it's telling the computerwhere it is running but within tolerances and not enough to trip a code. That could cause the engine run just a little rich and gas fumes building in the muffler is firing and making it pop.
Another possibility is if the resonator has been removed so it's making that pop-pop-pop that smaller engines make when you let off the gas.

Obviously, you have automatic transmission, and if you don't then you should practice shifting a little more. It could be that you need new transmission oil. Either that or something is wrong with the automatic transmission. Take it to a specialist. Hope I could help.

my 98 does the same thing, especially when upshifting and i think its slack in the transfer case or the front driveshaft/front end. i just had my rear end rebuilt and changed the fluid in my transfer case so ill get around to figuring out what it is soon enough because it drives fine
