Virtually, nobody owns it.
But in fact, everything has to pass by a lot of hardware and ,in particular, a lot of networks, hubs, switches, pabx and so for....
The biggest manufacturers in the world are in order alcatel, avaya, cisco, gartner, nortel.....who sells all those hardwares to the main phones companies......who owns most of the wirings between all those hardwares (but there so much more phone companies than hardware manufacturers)
And all those companies are owned by......the stock market, that means everybody!!!!
So Internet is owned by everybody...

Well...actuall...nobody owns it...In fact...the IP addresses for the internet are provided by IANA. But in reality...the us government controls it...They can shut it down any time they want.
