I believe the virus occured when I attempted to download the program Dragon Naturally Speaking 8 using limewire. I was going to download the program and was warned about viruses and it was strongly reccomended that I do not try to download it because it could be very dangerous. Nevertheless, I attempted to download it anyway. Well not only did I get a virus immediately, but the program could not be downloaded. I opted to heal the virus, and it said it was healed, and for weeks the computer was fine. But starting this week I began having problems. Any program that I minimize just seems to dissapear, and I have tremendous difficulty accessing yahoo. I was just lucky I could access it now. But in any case, I need to know if there is any way to get rid of the virus that is on here. I have tried doing a virus scan using AVG, doing a disk defragment, deleting the suspected program and its components and doing a disk cleanup, and doing a system restore. But none of this got rid of it.

I didn't read the answers, but I can suggest. First limewire was said to me, to have infections, sometimes. I use Utorrent 1.5. Never had a problem. Keep antivirus up to date. I personally use Norton. The symantec site has a free system scan for viruses. It may remove them, or at least tell you what is infected. Then just delete those files. I recomment getting Ewido Anti-Malware 3.5. It finds a lot of stuff and removes it. At least adware, spyware, and malware. Norton will detect these but won't remove them. I haven't had viruses since I got the internet in april. I can also suggest using firefox as the browser. It is faster than IE and blocks adware better. Hope this helps.

Use your task manager. Close the processor that you believe to be the virus/viruses.
Run msconfig.exe and go to the startup list. Cancel out the suspected virus from starting up. Look at it's location on your computer and go in and delete it 0.o.
You can also run a search according to the date of when you had recieved the virus and scan thru some folders to see if there are any other traces of the virus that you want/should get rid of.
---Edit---
If you're unable to do some of those steps, shutdown your computer into a restart, and when it's restarting hit f8 and reboot in safemode(with or without networking) and do as I listed above.

lime wire seems alright for the first 4 months or so ,then it can take over your machine ,i had the free version changed to the one you have to buy because i was so happy with it
in the end it broke my hard disk and i had to buy a new hard disk
if you are lucky ,you can reformat your hard disk and re install windows and everything else.
save you files on another computer first,
i did this at first and it worked with other virusus .but this lime wire had gone to deep into the hikey class roots and destroyed operational files.the hard disk was irreparable
,and you can be sure that before this happens ,your computer has been thoroughly scanned by somebody else out there ,
before it broke done the explorer and other Internet programs would not work so they were under control from outside
also lime wire would dominate the modem so that people sharing did not have enough space to operate their browsers if limewire was running.

First of all you need to shut down "system restore". unplug your computer for all night or until the next day your going to try and get rid of this.. Ive Had this virus and it seems to gobble up everything on your screen "Agobot" i think ,,, anyway by killing the power you are slowing the virus down. when you restart try first to run your antivirus program, if you find it put it in quarantine. then run your windows update. then for added safety turn back on your antivirus and scan entire machine again, then restart system restore.

it is not rebooting. you're reformatting. sure that eliminates them, yet that gets fairly annoying. only get Microsoft protection necessities or Avast! residing house version. they're going to defend you from maximum viruses, yet no software in the international will end each little thing.
