You're never to old. If you have the willingness to learn and you are consistent at it, that's all that matters. 44 year old who has a passion for something beats a 11 year old who isn't passionate.

A lot of people rationalize themselves out of doing things because they think they're too old. I once made the mistake of thinking at age 21 that I was "too old" to learn about computers.

I'm 31 now. If I had just ignored being self-conscious about it I would've been an extremely skilled Computer Programmer now 10 years later. Because I worried about age and if I'm too old, I let it pass me by.

In another case, I used to be an excellent drawer in Junior High, but I was too critical of my work. So I quit drawing. If I had just stuck with it, who knows how good of an artist I would've been 20 years later?

When it comes to age, there are so many people who are going back to college who are in their 30s and 40s. There are people who are taking online classes that are obtaining their degrees.

When I was taking Business Administration Classes, there were 30 and 40 year olds who were taking those Business Classes as well. Some were even in their 50s.

Age is all a matter of perspective. There are people who are in their 20s who are wise beyond their years. There are also people who are in their 40s and 50s who still haven't learned a thing.

No offense to my stepdad, but he didn't graduate from high school. He was born in 1937 and he's 69 years old. There are people half his age who have Bachelors Degrees and Masters Degrees.

So what does that say about age?

One of the most unfortunate things in life is to have regrets and say "I wish I had done this." If you pass up learning how to play the drums, you're going to be looking at yourself when you're 54...then 64...then 74...then 84 years old wishing you'd taken the plunge.

You should see if you can get involved in a music troup or even in an orchestra or symphony. It will give you something fun to do in your twilight years after you retire.

I used to be 1st Chair Clarinet in Junior High and High School. The most fun I had was in Marching Band and being in the Pit Orchestra of plays. My favorite was "Pirates of Penzance."

You should see if you can get involved in a Marching Band playing the Drums. There may be groups that are in need of someone and all the younger adults will look to you for leadership as well.

The Percussion and Bass Drum keep the beat and the rest of the orchestra follows that beat. You'd fit in naturally as a drummer if you're participating in a Marching Band or Orchestra.

There are a lot of music groups and bands that are in need of people who play Percussion. I'd assume that at your age you're financially stable, which is more than you can say for a lot of starving artists that are drummers.

You'd have a competitive advantage because you've been in the work force and now you can wind down and start doing stuff you like to do. So it's really to your advantage to start learning how to play drums.

Usually other drummers who are young pull away from music to settle down and have a regular job. You're in a really good position. There's a demand for you. Depending on the region you're in, you could see if you can find people who are in need of percussionists.

If you're willing to invest some time and some money in getting a set of drums, you can donate your services. Consult with Music Shops or even the local high schools to see if they are in need of a percussionist. You may even be able to enroll in a Community College if they have Band Classes.

The highlight of my Band Career was getting to play in the Marching Band my 11th Grade Year in the Disneyland Mainstreet Parade in 1992 that fell on my Birthday. It was fun being part of something and where everyone contributed to create something great.

No, I'm 38 and I'm just learning to play the guitar. Your never too old or young to anything that you want to. I started writing songs a few years ago, and I decided it would be easier to do that with the sound of a guitar accompanying the words. By the way, I've now written 16 songs. It does make it easier.

It's never too late to learn. As we get older I believe that learning to play instruments and such come easier. You're going to get older anyway and who knows, you might be a natural at it.
