not if it's my kid that gets bit. if your dog doesn't have any self control then he/she should be kept away from kids or situations that will cause em to bite. the victim is the one that gets bit, and the fault falls on the owner of the dog. kids will be kids and they will taunt animals. humans / dogs
i side with humans. i am a dog owner.

I once saw someone plonk a small child down on the floor with a large puppy and the shoved a biscuit in the childs mouth - puppy gleefully lunges for biscuit bites childs face in the process - puppy destroyed.
I was absolutely disgusted - what the hell do people think they're playing at mixing the two anyway, I've known of children to visit unspeakable cruelty on kind and patient pets unable to escape the torment, until they have finally snapped - Nope the animals are definately the victim.

sometimes yes, sometimes no. only last weeks the british press had a story of a poor 4 year old boy who got his face mauled by a bulldog of some sort. required 200 stitches and plastic surgery. luckily his facial muscles were ok so he can still smile. but the scars will remain for life, and he was only playing with his friends in a playground and the dog wasnt on a leash...or at least not when the dog bit him. the dog was put down but i dont know about the owner.

It is absolutely true! I've been in the animal rescue business for 10 years, and have been a vet tech for 6 years. I have rescued, retrained, and rehomed hundreds of dogs who have bitten people. In every single case that I've been involved in, the bite was provoked. A dog that has been abused in any way will quickly bite someone to defend themselves. They do not have the brain function to distinguish between a rowdy kid or an abusive one. To a dog, it all looks the same.

I agree with that. It happen with my dog. A little kid jumped and hurt his back. So everytime little kids jumped on his back he would snap and bite at them. I don't know the whole story about whoever owned the dog before me. We just got an out line of his history. Without the part he bites. He was a really great smart dog. Best I ever had. Sept he couldn't be near little kids. In the end we had to put him down. He was about 7 or 8. But started turning on adults too. And my baby was just starting to walk. I couldn't find anyone to take him cause of his history. Still feel bad about doing that. But if he turned on his master he will turn on anyone.

In some cases maybe.

I was bitten several times when a child and never provoked an animal on purpose. One dog attacked me when I was on a bicycle delivering newspapers.

If the dogs are victims they may have been taught to be vicious by stupid owners.

Some breeds can have vicious tendencies that can be reinforced by owners. Pit bulls for example.

I don't bother dogs and I have always prefered they don't bother me. I don't like being bitten by any animal, and would defend myself if menaced by a dog, to the extent I would kill that animal if necessary.

Guess you could call that dog a victim.

A dogs behaviour is a reflection of the owner. I have an Akita which is supposed to be an aggressive breed. They were bread to hunt bear in Japan. My dog is so gentle. The other day I left him in the car and I left the windows down. When I came back there about 6 people with their hands in the car posing with him and taking pictures. He just went with it and let them do whatever. He was trained to be docile. The owner makes the animal.

definately true - kids don't generally know that they are being abusive or bullying the dog - parents, like myself need not to be blind to this and staop it when their kids try to hit little spot with thier toys, climb on his back and pull his tail and ears!!! The dog will bite back, sooner or later! and the poor little chap will get the blame and the stupid parent will be parading thier scarred little kid in the news of the world saying that a monster canine snapped at him for no reason - NOT TRUE!!!!

Dogs are only as agressive as they are trained to be or treated.

Any animal that bites does so because they are feeling threatened. If this is not typical of your dog, and he does it, then I would look at the kid.

Dogs that maul are trained to be agressive or treated to do such things. In rare cases does the dog just "attack" in a pack like manner, killing a human. We are not in their food chain. Dogs are "social animals", and live in packs. Their owners are seen (if trained properly) as the "leader" of the pack, and the other family members as members of the pack. They do not typically attack their own pack members, but will attack others if they feel like themselves or a member of their pack is in danger or being threatened.

I refuse to believe that all dogs that attack humans do so just because. If trained properly to be friendly family dogs, and treated like a member of the family, dogs will not turn on their owners (only in extreme cases).

Yes, I believe so most of the times. The only time our dog ever tried to bite us as kids was because we were being to roudy and teasing him to much, though we never hurt him physically. He never drew blood but he did nip a couple of times. My mom said: "Serves you right, leave the poor creature alone"

sometimes yes, sometimes no, because some dogs bereeds have been over bred and are too aggressive...and maybe just maybe some parents who have kids should just keep them away from where they shouldn't be. My cousin was bitten in the face, but the dog was chained and the kid went on the owner's property to pet the dog, so who is at fault?
