Legalization may actually allow the police to provide some kind of protection to the prostitutes. The choice is not between prostitution or no prostitution. It's between legalized or criminalized prostitution. I don't care about the taxes, but it's a social problem and I think that making it legal would actually make it easier to address. Most (but not all) of them are people in need. I don't think any of them are criminals (i.e. causes negative externalities on third parties).

It is kind of like the war on drugs - we can fight it forever and never stop it. Maybe, it should be allowed for the prostitutes to form their own unions and buy health care to keep them safer. If that is possible.
Who we should go after is the pimps and string them up by you know what....
I was always against it, but then think about it, some of the wretched men who would drive their wives insane with their sexual over needs and or perversions.
Maybe prostitution is saving some wives and girlfriends from a horrible relationship...
Of course, that will not save the prostitute from the horrors there of... Just because you are cast into such a profession doesn't make you a non-person or less worthy of compassion.
In this question you have asked, is there really any answer?

I sometimes watch a show on HBO called Cathouse. It is about a brothel in Nevada. What amazes me about the show is how it explains how all of the women are tested on a monthly basis, the tax revenue that it provides for the state. Most of the women seem to make big bucks and most of them very smartly are making investments and will be able to retire by the time they are thirty. To them it is just their business that they have chosen to do. The ranch will not tolerate any type of drug usage, a lot of the women are college educated and of course the owner is the happiest guy in the world. Under these conditions I see no problem with it because these women have made the choice and they are not doing it for the same reasons that the STD infected crack using street prostitutes do. Even the infamous Heidi Fliess is thinking of opening one men will service women. It is the worlds oldest profession and despite societies frowning on it, it is never going to go away. I mean these women charge up to $1700 an hour and a lot of them say why give it away. Under controlled conditions I think it is ok.

No. I don't care what anyone says, it is NOT a "victimless" crime... the women are the victims. No little girl grows up and aspires to be a prostitute. Women turn to prostitution out of desperation, drug addiction, or other unsavory reasons.

It's dangerous to the psyches and bodies of women. Legalized prostitution would lend itself to rampant STDs, emotionally damaged young women, and an incredibly unhealthy cultural attitude toward sex in general.

Why not, they legalize it themself everywhere. Nothing to worry about, they are also going for healthy lifestyle. Goverment will not ever legalize prostitution, because all the wife's all over the world will protest against it.

It all depends on individuals lifestyle. If they can afford it why not.

I say yes it should, with everything else it would solve a number of problems for law enforcement, collect needed tax money, and cut down on a lot of abuse and manipulation of people, if it were legal it could be regulated, and people wouldn't be forced into it as they are now.I wouldn't choose it for myself but if that is what adults want to do I feel there are a lot worse "legal" activities they could be doing.

it IS everywhere, so might as well regulate it and tax it, which would make it safer and the govment could take its cut. There is only a stigma in this country due to it being illegal and the fact that this is a religious based country, one of the more prudish and intolerant kind of religions even.

It is not a good service. It breaks up marriages, spreads disease and is somewhat demeaning to the participants, and the neighborhood that it is practiced.

Whoring is a sign of a disintegrating society.
