The spaceship is silver and sort of looks like a bicycle helmet. Anyone know what this is. Probably from the 80s. I saw it as a child.

YES, it is "Flight of the Navigator". I saw when I was pretty young, too. I remember I liked the really cool special effects of flying over the water, and also especially when it zooms waaaaay out in space above the Earth, and then zooms back in really fast!
