YES IT WILL HURT THE BABY! Babies born from mothers who smoke have significantly lower birth weights. They are also more likely to be born with underdeveloped lungs and require assistance breathing and an extended stay in the in the hospital. It's not worth it. It's one thing that you can definitely control, so control it. Good time to quit as a matter of fact. Smoking after the baby is born is STILL bad for the child.

Its harmful... I smoked with my 4 year old and she came early... If u cant quit than at least cut down to about 4 or 5 day.... I read some where that said smoking was like grabbing the baby's cord and holding it preventing the baby from get oxygen.

I'm not sure medically, but from what i do understand is if you smoke while you are pregnant you will 1 put your child at risk for SIDS, sudden infant death syndrome, same is if you smoke in the house after the baby is born. 2 your baby will be cholicy because well, at that point 9 mo of smoking before he was born and then cold turkey? can you quit like that? he will go through withdrawals. 3 you will stunt his/her growth. the last one is just hear say i am not really sure.

A lot of studies say it will hurt the baby. But it is something you should talk about with your doctor. My mom for example kept smoking while she was pregant with me and my two sisters, but that was because the doctor told her if she quit that would be more stress on her, thus more stress on us (the baby).
But really, talking to your doctor is the best thing you can do. Each case is different.

They say your baby can be low birth weight and it could cause preterm labor.I smoked w/both of my kids,i cut back to only a few a day though. They are healthy 6and7 pds at nirth and i went full term. All though i am not saying it is ok to smoke during pregnancy. It is very hard to quit,at least try. They havent yet determined the long term future effects if any, yet.

Smoking is very harmful, and you should quit! One night I watched a special on how harmful it is to your unborn baby if you smoke, and it sure was convincing! It can cause many problems to the baby including a low birth weight. Its the best reason I can think of to quit!!!

It can because there are several harmful chemicals in smoke but also carbon monoxide which removes oxygen from the blood (which the baby needs) and the nicotine dilates the blood vessels which is also not good. Another thing is that smoking is an appetite suppressant so that you may not eat enough.

Smoking is awful for anyone - especially a baby. It can impact growth/development, result in low birth weight and premature birth, and possible mental defects. STOP SMOKING UNTIL YOU FIND OUT FOR SURE YOU ARE NOT PG.
