I had an interview on August 11th and they told me they would call me either way if I got the job or not, and it's been 1 week and a day and nothing yet. It's driving me crazy and I can't call them because I don't even remember the name of the lady who interviewed me. I would look stupid if I called and said I didn't remember her name.

The time will vary depending on the company. It could be a few days to a few weeks. The number of positions available compared to the number of applicants is the big factor.

Calling the company after a week or so to check on how things are going is a good idea. Just remember to be patient. Next time, get the interviewer's business card. They SHOULD give those out to candidates.

If they are a big company with thousands of workers or a mid size company with a tiny HR department, it will take a while. My company takes over a month from interview to hire.

Today most companies don't even bother sending rejection letters because it is too time consuming. Translation - HR is too lazy to set up a Word template and change the name and job title fields and send the letter/email.

I would give it another 4 days to make it 2 weeks. If it is a big company, they usually interview all week. Then they have to review all the applicants and choose. Most of the time when an applicant is not chosen, they get a letter in the mail that someone else was chosen for the position. If after 2 weeks you haven't been notified, I would call and ask if the position was filled...good luck

Do you remember the person's job title? If so, could you call the switchboard and just ask for the person's name stating you want to send some correspondence addressed to the right individual.

Then, when you have the right name and spelling, send them a thank you note for the interview, and ask them if they could update you on the status of the interview.

It's more classy than just a call, and it will give you a good chance to put into words some of the things that you are your strengths for the position.

IF you want a good letter to use, do a search on job interview thank you letters on Google.

You never know, it just might be the way to get a second interview!

It's always good to call back the day after an interview with some follow up questions....It will show the employer you are interested and put you back in the front of their mind.

About a week. If they have another candidate it might be longer, as they might delay responding to you until they have had time to think about the other candidate.

If you don't remember the interviewer's name, call the company's general number and mention that you had expected to hear back regarding an interview, and you wondered who would be contacting you and when. It's probably the same person who interviewed you, but at least that way it's part of the "when" question.

good luck!

they are looking for you to demonstrate that you match the skills that they are looking for. Look at the job description or better still the person specification if you have it. Match what it on that with the skills you have at the moment. If it's your first interview i am assuming you have little or no work experience - speak about skills gained at school or university ie communication skills, time management, computing skills etc also if you were involved in any activities, clubs, etc bit of advice for the actual day, listen to the questions and if you don't understand ask the interviewer to repeat the question. Good luck
