With partisan politics ripping us apart, is there some issue that America can stand united on? Or maybe an event? Is there any way we can bring radicals more to the center and let eveyone accept other opinions and beliefs?

I know what your thinking: Utopia, or maybe that I'm a sissy liberal, but I sincerely hope that something happens to politics soon before we become too radicalized.

Post your thoughts.

Good question. I take your point about politics marginalizing those who no longer feel represented, but I don't feel that "unity", as such, is necessarily a good thing.
Learning how to 'agree to disagree' and respect others' opinions are far more important than fudging the issues so as not to offend anyone.
It's all part of a vibrant political system (which some call democracy) that encourages people to air their views as well as listen to others.
The spectrum of political thought in the US should be broader not narrower. I hope we continue to move away from this ' everyone lumped in the middle caring conservative, patriotic liberal' baloney.

1. America was founded on disunity. Only about 1/3 of the colonist supported independence from Great Britain, about 1/3 supported the British and the other 1/3 didn't care (this according to John Adams).

2. Read George Washington's 1796 Farewell Address. I think you will find it very enlightening. Washington predicted modern politics over 200 years ago.

Well, being that we saw the whole of the country pull together in a way not seen in decades just after the 9-11 terrorist attacks. I would say that one thing that can bring us together is tragedy. The fact that life is precious and its great to be alive. We all love the freedoms that we have here and hopefully are willing to pull together in effort to change so that we can continue to enjoy our life and freedom here. Historically, it seems that we need that sort of thing to really bind us all in purpose and test our integrity. Very much the way that a steel rod gets stress tested before its actually put to use. We need to test ourselves because sometimes the only way to find out if there is a flaw is to test it under pressure. If the country breaks then it was never really that strong to begin with and if it does not then we will know a new resolve like we've not had in many years.

Nowhere, because Americans think and behave LOCAL, i.e. within their very limited community. You will find millions of Americans far from reality related to global matters to Foreign politics, to Globalization, to Warming up and many other critical and important issues. This is due to segregation and seclusion of communities. As for the parties the system is rotten but suits the politicians and the people, so no need to look at a change soon. Some will tell you that the legislation's allow for that, but who will preempt it.

Unity is something i have been screaming, forever, but the democrats need to disagree so they can attempt to assume power. Hamas is unsure of what their goals are and have no funding to endure. Hezbollah has power but no country with a economic structure. Every one wants power. It is not used correctly by identities with power. Unity is a form of agreement. Everyone just agrees to disagree.Persons need to establish goals positive goals when they do they will seek unity. Until then everyone wants power yet no one knows how to use it including Iran NKorea etc. etc.etc.

Unity can only be found through the Savior and the Word, those things have since been buried, and put away, we're all creatures of God, and it should reach beyond the US borders.

Try going to an atheists' meeting!

You'll find happy, positive-minded people who are looking for common sense answers to life's problems. Minus the religious guilt and trappings most Americans suffer from.

Look up your local chapter of Atheists for Human Rights!
