How about a quiet rivalry between the two friends (not over a boy, that's overused) over something else where even when they are together, there is always an undercurrent of one-upmanship? Then develop a situation where small details in the character development suddenly becomes amassed that the line of antagonism is drawn? From there, work on the conflict resolution or denouement that is the theme of the story. Have fun!

U-571 via Max Allan Collins is a fantastic tale approximately submarine conflict interior the Atlantic in WWII. The plot is composed of between the main resourceful twists that makes this tale so unique. We stick to the yankee group as they are trapped via destiny. The action is remarkable and the characters deliver the tale to existence. s

How about one helping the other after an accident or surgery.
Even a minor accident like breaking a leg. Shopping can't be easy on crutches....say anns gets hurt...have emily pushing her through a department store in a wheelchair. The conflict is an injury and the end of their summer fun????

You could make one of the girls ( say Anna ) fall in a love with a hunk who is all wrong for her. This guy turns out to be a bad influence on the girl. She starts to hang out with the wrong crowd, gets a lot of bad habits. Her friend ( Emily ) keeps warning her to get away from the guy and his friends. She doesn't listen....etc, etc...blah blah.
Eventually she gets into a lot of trouble and maybe ends up in some kind of accident or trouble with the cops and her boyfriend doesn't help her out. None of her new friends turn up either.
Only Emily turns up and helps her out.
All appropriately Bitter- sweet. Best of Luck!!!! :)

Why not try the tribulations of teen love. The ups and downs of two girls who like the same guy and since they are best friends they must decide how to work through it as only best friends can do. Fight it out and make up? Learn that men can be there for a moment but best friends are for life.

Have them go on a trip together. Then their money gets stolen, they have an idea to call an old friend they met through the computer. They are about to meet in a Starbucks, but there was only one client there and he was nothing like they he has previously describe. This girls are very smart, they ditch him and end up sleeping the night inside a confessionary in a catholic church. Like Teenagers they don't want to accept they were wrong and call their parents.. You get my drift... Good Luck!!

Well, you could always make them ideological or religious enemies (Like Fascists and Communists, or Muslims and Jews, but something that would fit in to your novel better. Say like making one of them the daughter of a Palestinian resistor/terrorist and the other the daughter of an Israeli soldier to give a contemporary example) but let them overcome these differences and show the power of friendship overcoming such petty differences. Not really to realistic, but sappy enough to make people weep with happiness...

I thinkk they should get into a discussion about their future, then for a class project on diversity they have to do a project where pairs of teens raise a baby together. since their class has an odd number they are selected to raise the baby together. That woudl bring them closer. PLus I think it will teach them about accepting other who are in different lifestyles as well.

Maybe they could both fall in love with the same guy, But somehow they don'y realize it. And each one tries to help the other to get the guy.
Wow, soph the soph. Took the words right out of my mouth.
If you don't mind your story being a little wacky, the guy could be pretending to be two people. So girl #1 falls in love with the guy's first persona, and girl #2 falls in love with his second persona.

my love like all lits there must be a conflict but i tragedy can not bring us close than what, how about we add another character not a family member but a challenge how about trying to get a scholarship into a specific university and how emily must learn what true frendship is before leaving to the interview, set the plot to what you feel...not what you ask, take a walk and find souls not people
