i didn't start my garage work until the early 70's, although i am obscure. i did see roky erickson and stacy sutherland perform a few times in the 70's when i lived in texas though.
okay, the flamin groovies, the lively ones, electric prunes, tradewinds, eire apparent, fevertree, the blues magoos, electric flag, the peanut butter conspiracy, the pharos, the trashmen, the deuce coupes, the impacts, the leaves, the chocolate watchband, castaways, the royal guardsmen, bloodrock, the bubble puppy, friend and lover, captain beefheart, napolean the 14th, mother mccree's uptown jug champions, hotlegs. that's all i can think of right now.

Try some of these: Smoke, The Uglys, Kaleidoscope (UK or US), Creation, The Allusions (Australian), The Untamed, The Mirage, The Others/Sands/Sundragon (all the same group), The Stillroven, The Great Scots, The Bruthers, The Gurus, The Paisleys, Gandalf, The Gants, Zakary Thaks, The Gestures, The Driving Stupid, The Neanderthals, The Gruesomes, The Bystanders.
How's that for a start? The first 8 are either British or Australian....the rest are US - mostly garage-types. Some psychadelia tossed in for good measure. The last one is from Wales.
And all are available on CD - if you look hard enough!!! Well, you said obscure.
