because it works. Intimidation is what gets them their money back.

I'm a collector and personally I am far from rude to anyone I call. UNLESS they are rude to me, but Hey it's my job I understand sometimes times are hard and you can't pay , but instead of yelling and being mean and aggravated towards the collector, try being nice, collectors have a lot of authority over accounts they work, some might even be able to lower your balance or make interest rates lower, depending on the type of balance i.e medical, dental, or auto loans...Not all Collections specialists are rude people. We are just trying to earn our dollar like you. If everyone would pay what they owe, we'd have no job!

The answer to your question is easy. They are ******* because they have to constantly deal with jerks that cannot meet their financial obligations. They get tired of the deadbeats they have to constantly deal with.
Many collection houses purchase bills from the original lender for pennies on the dollar. These collection houses then have to collect or go broke.
I know if I loan somebody money (which I won't), and if they don't pay my back, I'm not going to be nice and say "will you please pay me back what you owe me?" I'm going to demand payment as soon as possible or I'm taking somebody to court!
My suggestion is that if you don't want to be bothered by bill collectors, then pay your bill!

They are trained that way. Many people they can call, get them all frazzled and they will send their last dime to pay a bill that can wait.
Just talk crazy back to them or hang up. They will also try to trick you into paying.
Example: Your bill is $250.00 they will call you up and say if you pay $125.00 we will consider the bill paid. Don't accept this unless it is in writing. Then if it is in writing they will claim THEY did not process the payment until after the deadline and try to harass you into paying the balance. Don't pay. I told them to go to hell. And did not pay.
It's all a trick. Besides think about it. Where can you go and work customer service. And be rude to your customers? This is why I DO NOT shop sprint. And never will.

Because we get sick of calling a bunch of deadbeat people who refuse to pay their bills. Some of the worst ones that don't want to pay are Lawyers and Doctors. For the most part I am not rude unless the person gets an attitude with me. Then I will be rude. If they are really rude then I just sue them and have their wages garnished.

They want to scare you into paying what you owe... plus it's a requirement to be an asshole to get a bill collector job.

You are just a debt to them. They get paid to collect from you and obviously don't have ethics in their vocabulary. If you feel you are being abused over the phone, record the phone calls if you can. Let them slit their own throat.
