To reach the next evolutionary tier before the world ends. One of the major steps that must be achieved before this can be reached is to tear down the existing mess and rebuild a global society completely free from gender, racial, religous and political conflict - to at last be one race. As far as I can see, the only way that can happen is for all humans to have a common enemy, so bring on the aliens.

The biggest challange facing mankind...
to preface what everyone has answered(in phrases would be borrowed time; TIME- b/c in order to get along with people you need time... inorder to get used to your surroundings you need time... to have a family you need time...to become stable in a job(career), to make money and retire you need time... to end abolish poverty, to end wars and troubles in/out of the country we need time.
This to me is the greastest challenge facing mankind.

Getting the "haves" to lighten the load, and give instead of taking all the time.
Getting the "have nots" to NOT be impatient, this leads to violence.
Getting the two groups to understand each other, and form a group for the common good, of our combined future.
Seriously...
Getting Americans to understand and love Soccer.

overpopulation and the depreciation of our natural resources. That's two challenges. Oh, and nuclear warfare. And corrupt governments. And the over-sexing of our children. Basically, we're screwed.

Spiritually coming back to God. This world will pass but God, Jesus, Holy Spirit is there forever. Some people do not believe Jesus died on the cross for their sins.. He did and if you believe that you will go to heaven.

The same one that has always been. How do we get back into fellowship, or hanging around with, God? He has provided the way. It is our response to simply pick it up and enjoy it. So easy.
