the question isn't really so much what kinda of guitar to get as it is, like how hard is it to switch, and what should i really be focusing on to switch

Actually, because of the 'action', an electric is easier to play than an acoustic. Heres some of my bookmarked guitar sites that you may find helpful:

I did the same thing. I've been playing acoustic for about a year and got an electric just a few weeks ago. It seems to be a lot faster playing on a electric than an acoustic. Give it a try, maybe from a friend or music shop.

I started on the electric and went acoustic about 5 years ago... Electric is much easier to play in my opinion, but you HAVE to get a guitar that feels good to play, don't rely all on looks. My first guitar was a 1984 Fender Stratocaster, but after I got a Telecaster, I was hooked. I loved the Strat, but I love my Tele even more. You HAVE to shop around for one that YOU like. Don't buy online unless you know EXACTLY what it is and how it feels like. If you like, you can email me any questions and I will be happy to help you out. Good luck!

You shouldn't have much trouble switching but keep your accoustic too! Find a guitar that stays in tune when you chord high up on the neck(10th-12th fret).use a set of strings w/ a.010" high E string.anything lighter will just make you lazy and the tone quality is much better. I've been there and it took me about a year to get my 'chops' back. It will play a lot easier than your acc. and you won't be as likely to fall into bad habits like excessive stretching, etc.Shop around.spend$250.-$350.goodluck!

acoustic guitar? they make non-electric ones? wow!
ok just joking there...i wouldn't know what to do with an acoustic..unless i hooked up an amp and distortion pedal to it maybe.
so yeah...just go buy one really, try a few out find one you like how it sounds and like the neck (the neck is really the first thing i check to see if i like how it feels, if i don't, i don't care how good the rest of the guitar is) and such...they are actually "easier" to play in a way since you don't in general have to hold the strings down as hard. i would also say start with something cheapish in case you don't like it for some odd reason.

the electric guitar and acoustic guitar are basically the same. Won't be that hard to play the electric actually.
