I'm building a system and can't figure this one out. I've got an Abit IL8 Motherboard, 1 GB PC2 5300 DDR2, Pentium D 940 3.2 GHz, Powercolor PCIe X800 GTO, 500 W PSU (aftermarket...set to 115v), Seagate 250GB SATA2 HDD. Hooked up, the system powers up, but anywhere from 5 seconds to 1 minute it shuts down. I strip it down to barebones with only the video, CPU and fan, RAM, MB, and PSU, and it still does it. I pull the ATX12v1 connector, and it stays up but I never get any video. I've gone out and temporarily bought a new MB, RAM, and CPU, but the thing still does it. The only thing I haven't tried replacing the Video card. For the life of me, a bad video card doesn't make sense as to why it would keep shutting down since I do get video while it's up. Any ideas? I'm about to go out tomorrow and buy and new video and MB from another manufacturer...and if i get it running, i return what i don't want. Ideas?

Usually the reboot problems as you describe come from one of several problems, The incorrect power supply, or bad one. 2. Memory is not compatible with MB, or not seated completely, 3. Bios is not configured correctly, 4. Video Card could be bad, Not likely though.. Maybe the MB, or processor could be throwing the conflict.. Good Luck

If you have a fancy mobo, you will want to make sure that all your components are running at the factory settings in the bios setup. Also, if you are using a HDD that is from another pc, you will want to format it. Otherwise it will try to use the other mobo's settings. Regards.

I would agree that it could be an insufficient powersupply. Other hardware issues that come to mind are a faulty IDE channel, or overheated hard drives (or faulty electronics on one).

My experience is mostly with hard drives, needed to have space between them or this would happen to me.
