Forgive, but don't forget and try to maintain the best relationship you can with them. Nothing in life is perfect, and when we make mistakes, we learn from them and move past them. If you keep reflecting on what it was that went bad, then you are never going to be able to move forward. Honey, sometimes parents do stupid things and this all really depends on what it was that happened. Sometimes, parents do the most unthinkable and unforgiveable things. And if that's the case, it's okay to not want to forgive...but if you choose that, then you should let go and go on without them. Don't make it your burden.

You do not have to accept your parents. What you can do is to accept the fact that they will not change their ways. Accept your past. Learn from the past and move on to make sure that you don't make the same mistakes with your children.

That is a loaded question. Did your parents affect your past that dramatically that they deserve forgiveness or something? Only you know how to come to terms w/ your life's happenings. Try to be forgiving and understand why people are the way they are. Good, bad or indifferent. Don't be too hard on yourself if you can't accept what has happened. You're only human.

What is the payoff of not accepting them? (your past and your parents)
-Not being able to enjoy them (parents)
-Being uncertain of who you are (your past experiences jsut make you stronger and a better person)
-Not having a healthy relationships: parents, significant other, friend, ect (You learned from your parents and their relationship, so If you dont distinguish whats a healthy realtionship you might have unhealthy relationships with others)
Does that sound like a good payoff for not accepting your parents and your past?

sometimes it is hard to accept things that have happened in the past...even with parents or other things that have happened...but it is best i think to accept things you cannot change anyway...and go on and try to do better...i do not think it pays to hold grudges or hurt feelings either....parents make mistakes like everyone else...i have made my share of them and i am sorry for my mistakes...you never know the other persons feelings either...just try and take one day at a time and learn to deal with things of the past and live for the future....try to live happy and contentment in your life...

It's a process that may take the rest of your life. It is easier if you learn to think of your parents as individuals with their own past history to deal with. Most people do the best they can at any given time. The main thing is for you to take hold of yourself and realize that you are the one who makes your decisions for yourself. You can control the course of your life.

To accept the new, you must first let go of the old, Grasshopper.
Learn about being in the moment. It is a wonderfully freeing practice. I noticed in your profile that you do yoga and the two go hand in hand. I hope the best for you.

Just try to do the best you can, and if you are still having trouble, then just don't think about it.
