I play guitar and I eventually want to record what I play and have a Music Artist page on Myspace. I'm not yet good enough to compose my own stuff, but I can play songs from videogames and stuff. I looked at the rules and it says that you can not upload songs that aren't yours or you will get deleted. That makes sense, but what if it's of me playing the song that I don't own? I don't plan to take credit for the original score or anything, I would most certainly give credit where it's due. So is that allowed, or does it have to be my own original music?

I think what they are saying is that you can not upload something that has been performed by someone else. Plenty of artists do songs that are called "covers" which were not originally theirs. If you wait long enough, or get permission, you can legally sell songs like that, but you can redo songs and give them away if they are done sooner. Nothing wrong with that.

I would just wait a year until you get good enough to compose and record your own songs. That way you don't have to play scaled-down versions of famous songs. Save yourself the embarrassment.
