just got a motorola l6 from cingular. went to work and can't hear a thing. no service. is it possible to somehow switch networks without paying a penalty or to get a different phone without paying a fortune? san jose area

Contact Cingular. I think it is possible if it has been less than three days.

Cingular will only cancel your service at no charge if the phone does not work where you live at...You do have a 3 day trial period, so if you return the phone there is no charge or if you cancel it within 30 days you will only pay for the amount of days that you have the phone for plus the activation fee.

Seems like you bought a L6 with Tri-Band and not Quad band.

Since you just got it, you can return the phone and switch carriers as long as you within the first thirty days.
