Bush cooked the books on intelligence.
Is he at it again on scientific research?

Muse has a point. I agree that politicians should stay out of these matters. Best left to the states. Look at the Gay marriage amendement first raised by the Mass. supreme court. However is this a moral issue or an issue of survival?

Nice question.
When NASA scientists are quitting because some presidential appointee with zero scientific training is censoring their work, we have a serious problem.
Bush has admitted global warming is real and that humans are causing it (much to the dismay of the faithful, who continue to believe the earth is flat).
The real shame is that this is a fixable problem for a great nation like the U.S., and fixing it won't even be that hard. In fact, the only groups that stand to really suffer from a solution are the oil and coal companies. Of course, they're moving into nuclear now, so you can be sure that in a few years, after they're established, suddenly the conservative faithful will see the light and deny that they ever disagreed with the idea.

I hate to keep beating the same drum, but the liberal movement has been crushed because the public threw a moral issue into the political arena 30 some years ago. Namely abortion. The Democratic Party's stand on abortion has cost the party dearly. Moral issues, like matters of religion, don't belong in the political arena and can't be settled by politicians. The debate over abortion has driven the majority away from the Democrats because they view abortion as immoral. Ergo, Democrats are immoral, and all their issues are immoral.
The Democratic party needs to disassociate itself with the so-called pro-choice viewpoint and return to its core issues, one of which is protection of the environment.
We cannot simply blame Bush and the Republicans for the obvious environmental catastrophe we are facing. Bush and the Republicans are doing what they do best: consume the environment and wage war. It's the Democrats who have failed us at this point in time. Where is their leadership?
