Liberals are for abortion and gay marriage.
Christians are against abortion and the gay lifestyle.

It seems very incompatible to me.

I would like the Catholic Church to excommunicate John Kerry. He goes against the church with his political beliefs and he puts those beliefs above his church's teachings.

If you believe this is all God's Kingdom, then not living your life with a value system based on the teachings of the bible is a sin. There can be separation of church and state - YES. But good people will always want to follow the teachings of God and NOT their political party here on earth.

Shouldn't your first priority, if you are a Christian, be to the teachings of God and the 10 Commandments, etc.? I do not WANT to separate the two.

I do not believe in blindly following what anyone says, but some things are just basic decency and common sense.

Yes, me.

Jesus said "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.(Luke 6:37)"

Do you judge liberals based on your inaccurate assumptions? Do you condemn homosexuals rather than forgive them?

"And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? (Matthew 7:3)"

"On hearing this, Jesus said to them, It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.(Mark 2:17)"

Love the sinner, hate the sin. If churches started casting out all sinners, there'd be no one left to attend.

My first priority as a Christian IS to follow the teachings of Jesus and the 10 Commandments. The first priority of the government is to do the will of the people, not the Bible. Once the government starts using the Bible as a guideline for legislation instead of the Constitution, we start becoming a theocracy, something our forefathers felt the need to write the 1st Amendment to prevent.

My priority would be to do what Jesus would do. Did he condemn the woman (who had five husbands) at the well? Did he condemn the prostitute when the Pharisees were stoning her? Would Jesus condemn the homosexuals, and call for their stoning, so to speak?

When a person's belief takes away the right of another person to work, to have basic civil rights ..that's not love. The first commandment that Jesus gave His disciples was...Love your God, and then love your neighbour. When we impose our beliefs on others, that's NOT love. Jesus never forced any of his teachings on others; rather, He convinced people by making example of His life on earth.

Too often people use the political platform to impose their beliefs on others...Jesus was never into politics because Christianity wasnt a religion of politics. He was the original proponent of a separation of church and state.

For example, those who want the state to engage in public worship, or even to have prayer in schools, are defying his injunction: "When you pray, be not like the pretenders, who prefer to pray in the synagogues and in the public square, in the sight of others. In truth I tell you, that is all the profit they will have. But you, when you pray, go into your inner chamber and, locking the door, pray there in hiding to your Father, and your Father who sees you in hiding will reward you."

Jesus' emphasis was always that one's relationship with God was not external, but rather an internal matter of the heart.

Christianity is not as black and white as some people would lead you to believe. Making a blanket statement like "Christians are against abortion and the gay lifestyle" shows a limited understanding of the variety of christian viewpoints out there.

The world is alot bigger than what your preacherman tells you. In Christianity, just like any other belief system, there are as many shades of gray as their are numbers of believers who actually take the time and think for themselves.

Are you saying you want the government to tell you what to believe, even if it conflicts with your personal beliefs? That's what would happen if there were no separation of church and state. The government would impose its chosen religion on you. If you were Catholic and the President were Protestant you would have to accept Protestant views, and vice versa. Is that what you want?

With incredibly broad generalizations like that, it's not surprising that you don't think there's any overlap.

I know many Christians who cover the entire range of beliefs on abortion and on homosexuality. I also know quite a few self-described liberals that cover the entire range of beliefs.

And it's the job of politicians to put their political beliefs above their church teachings. That's the entire concept of a secular government that the Constitution is based on.

Why do we stereotype others when we don't want them doing that to us? Jesus Christ was a radical liberal who challenged
the beliefs of his day.
God does not change. But people do. We are emotional beings
who take everything to extremes. Therefore, sometimes we
need to be more liberal in our dealings. And other times more
conservative. Balance is the way of things.

I'm a Christian liberal. Although I am morally opposed to abortion, I don't believe in oppressing my beliefs on others because I don't like it done to me. And in addition to kicking someone out of church being totally unchristian, I think it shows maturity to separate ones religious and personal beliefs from their job and politics.

the word "christian" means= followers of christ.

i dont understand how people can question whether or not the gay lifestyle is right or wrong, stop listening to what preachers, priests, pastors, clergy, etc are saying and look in the dang bible for yourselves! any bible you look at says the same thing, that men who lie with men will not inherit gods kingdom.
